I know the news is a few days old but better late than never. YouTube apparently will begin showing full-length television programs in addition to its shorter video clips to generate and supplement their meagre ad revenue. The popular video sharing site said the new program is to begin with shows from CBS including “90210,” “Dexter” and “Californication”, which I don't watch anyway. You might be seeing shows from other networks soon.
I know that this is a legal alternative to having to download the episodes off torrents, but there's one potential plan that might put you off. They plan to air ads in between the shows. In doing so, they'll be losing a lot of customers who hate seeing commercials. Also you can only watch the shows if you are in the US. Bad luck for the guys around the world. :(
YouTube previously hesitated selling this ad format because the Web site feared turning off viewers of its shorter clips. But marketers have been slow to warm to advertising adjacent to the usual user-created videos that make up a majority of the videos on YouTube.
Well, I for one will probably only watch only the episodes from the old shows like MacGyver and so on..
